The Sears Lorain is a Colonial that is easily recognizable with its arched dormer and arched portico. The open front porch is offset and supported by square pillars.

This authenticated Sears Lorain was landmarked by the city of Joliet in 2003. The house was built in 1938 by Robert and Elsie Rub. Robert worked at a brewery.
A former owner of the house found the original Sears blueprints and stamped lumber. He also tracked down Robert's son who confirmed that the house was from Sears Roebuck and that horses and plows were used to dig out the basement.
The arched pass through from the living room to the dining room mirrors the arch above the front door. The hardwood floors look great! Photo from Realtor site. |

The upstairs bedroom with the dormer. The dormer was rounded on the catalog illustration, but it appears that the Rubs opted for a rectangular one. Photo from Realtor site. |
Ad from the 1930 Sears Roebuck merchandise catalog. Maybe Robert and Elsie saw this! |
