Sears Maywood from the 1926 Modern Homes catalog. |
This authenticated Sears Maywood was built in 1928. The two porches on either side have been enclosed, and they may have been like that originally. All the other details on the exterior match the catalog illustration.
This appears to be an original Sears door. |
The door is on the far left. Catalog scan courtesy of Sears House Seeker. |

The original owners were Gertrude and Enoch Jackson Dewire. The Dewires got a mortgage from Sears Roebuck for $5,000 in 1928. By 1930, they valued the house at $12,000.
Enoch owned a leather company in Chicago called E. Jackson Dewire & Son. He died in 1933. By 1940, Gertrude had sold the house and moved in with her son.

Fantastic! We so rarely have the documentation we need to be sure a Maywood-looking house is a Maywood. Have we ever seen interior shots before? Great post! (Love that door!)
